The chateau of Fontainebleau
The chateau of Fontainebleau,a Unesco World Heritage Site since 1981, with origins
dating back to the XIIth century, has welcomed all of France’s important sovereigns.
They have ceaselessly extended and improved it, and it is a unique example of a residence which
has been loved and regularly inhabited for eight centuries. Surrounded by 130 hectares
of grounds and gardens, and containing more than 1500 exhibits, exceptionally decorated
and furnished, the chateau of Fontainebleau is one of the rare French chateaux which
is fully furnished today.
